The Conservatives will save the Great British High Street. There is a great entrepreneurial spirit here in Essex – and our High Streets are a crucial part of our local communities. While there have been significant changes in how we use our high streets, I am a strong advocate for business and entertainment opportunities on our High Streets in the Brentwood and Ongar constituency.
Through the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill, the Government is proposing new powers for local authorities to take control of empty buildings and give communities and local businesses the opportunity to bid for the chance to rent shops. In addition, the Brentwood Improvement District (BID) is now in place to enable local shopkeepers, cafe owners, business people, residents and the local councils to work together to improve the amenity, access and enjoyability of the High Streets in Brentwood, Shenfield and Ingatestone.
