Alex Burghart MP says no to pylons

I continue to fight the proposal to build a line of massive pylons from Norwich to Tilbury, passing through Ingatestone, Hutton and West Horndon en route.

I have encouraged my constituents to get involved in all the National Grid consultations to date, but now there is a chance to have your say with the Planning Inspectorate.

You will need to register with the Planning Inspectorate before 27th November via this link:

https://national-infrastructure-consenting.planninginspectorate.gov.uk/projects/EN020027/register/register-have-your-say

You may have submitted objections previously but these have been to National Grid, and not the Planning Inpsectorate. You can send in the same, or similar, objections to the Planning Inspectorate for its consideration.

The Essex Suffolk Norfolk Pylons group have come up with a helpful checklist:

"HARM caused by the project

  • Heritage

Describe the harm cause to historic assets like listed buildings.

  • Archaeology

Describe the harm caused by the project.

  • Environment, habitat, species

Describe the harm caused by the project.  Do you see geese & swans fly across the route?  Do you see bats?  Are there any ancient trees or hedgerows at risk?

  • Landscape

Describe features that make the landscape special.    Describe the harm caused by N2T.

  • Proximity to houses or businesses

Describe any harms

  • Public Rights of Way

Describe the harm to PROWs’, especially when they are well used eg Essex Way

  • Breaches of Holford Rules (or Horlock Rules if you have a substation)

13795-The Holford Rules.pdf (nationalgrid.com)

  • Roads and access

Describe any road access issues

Consultation deficiencies

Set out all the flaws of the consultation process e.g.

  • Which points you have raised previously that have been ignored by NG
  • Difficulties for your parish with regard to attending drop-in events
  • Lack of awareness of consultation
  • Being unable to understand the proposals"

Opposing National Grid's Onshore Pylon Proposal

Many residents, especially those in Ingatestone, Haverings Grove and West Horndon, are aware of National Grid’s proposal to build a new high voltage network reinforcement between Norwich, Bramford and Tilbury via an intrusive network of overhead lines and pylons.

I have long campaigned for the preservation of our greenbelt. Whilst I know that some housebuilding is inevitable, it is extremely important that largescale building does not lead to London expanding indefinitely into the countryside.
