Temporary classrooms at the Anglo European School 2023

The last week has seen children return to school and Parliamentarians return to Westminster after the summer break.

There have been some (positive) changes for schools locally. Ingatestone Infants and Juniors go back to the same schools but now under Academy status, and I wish the staff and pupils well in their new found status.

Elsewhere in Ingatestone, the Anglo European School is on track to get a new building almost a year after first finding they had RAAC concrete in the sixth form centre. I worked very closely with the Anglo’s excellent head, Jodie Gee, to secure the funding for this and will be keeping an eye on the new Labour Government to make sure they honour the promises that were made - both in Ingatestone and elsewhere.

In Parliament we are being subjected to some dismal socialist legislation, not least the Great British Energy Bill. Labour Ministers are claiming this will bring down fuel prices, but experts say it will just make energy more expensive. Certainly I fear that as GB Energy will not generate any electricity at all it will be is a gimmick that will end up costing families, not cutting bills.

However, in better news, the Government has agreed to an Opposition debate on the decision to remove the Winter Fuel Payment from millions of pensioners, so Labour members will have to decide whether to vote to support their party’s desperate decision or to vote against their own Chancellor.
