I am pleased to be able to bring some good news to all those constituents who live near, or regularly use, the A12 as it runs through the Brentwood and Ongar constituency from Brook Street roundabout to Margaretting.
After several years of complaints about potholes, a deteriorating road surface, and virtually unusable inside lanes in both directions, National Highways have been in touch with me to say urgent repairs have been carried out between junctions 12 and 15 in the last week, and work with begin in the Autumn to rebuild the Margaretting Byupass section of the A12 between junctions 13 and 15.
Reconstruction will involve completely removing the concrete road surface and some of the foundations, before rebuilding the road and resurfacing it with low noise asphalt material. I understand This work will provide a road that will last another 50 years, will give drivers a smoother road surface and reduce noise pollution to those living and working nearby.
Work will significantly impact the area, so National Highways will be holding a comprehensive publicity campaign during which they will engage with local residents, drivers, businesses and other key stakeholders. More information will also be made available on its website at www.nationalhighways.co.uk/A12margaretting.
