Update:
As a result of the Coronavirus, Essex County Council has made the difficult decision to suspend current works in Ongar High Street. This is necessary in order to protect staff, the public and to help restrict the spread of the virus.
The website has been updated to reflect this change.
We will continue to share updates as information becomes available. Parishes will be informed as normal.
20th March 2020
Preparations are underway to carry out essential carriageway improvements and footway repairs to A128 High Street and Coopers Hill in Ongar (between the junctions of Brentwood Road and Love Lane). Works are due to start Monday 23 March and are due to finish early May 2020.
Initially footway and kerb repairs will take place with the support of traffic lights (day or night time), followed by overnight road closures to accommodate road reconstruction and surfacing activities. During planned road closures no through traffic will be permitted through the works. Diversions will be advertised which accommodate all vehicle types, however other local alternatives may be available.
Vehicle access to residential and business properties within a closed section of road will be maintained during the majority of the scheme, however there will be periods overnight when access will be restricted due to work taking place at property frontages, and during resurfacing operations when no access will be permitted. These restrictions are necessary to protect the public and the workforce.
Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout.
Residents and businesses affected by the works are being contacted (example letter attached) and a website ‘A128 High Street/Coopers Hill, Ongar – carriageway & footway improvements’ has been created where further details are available. We are aware these works are planned in traffic sensitive area and as preparations continue for these works, updates will be shared as information is confirmed. This will include traffic restrictions and phasing information.
