Brentwood Signs

Brentwood and Ongar MP, Alex Burghart, has written to the Home Secretary, the Rt. Hon. Yvette Cooper, calling on her not to allow any more hotels for asylum seekers to be opened in his constituency.

Alex called for the Bell Hotel in Epping and the Phoenix Hotel in North Weald to be closed to asylum seekers last week, after outbreaks of disorder in Epping.

Now he's asking for assurance no additional asylum hotels are opened in the area.

Alex has also joined the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex, Leaders of Epping Forest District Council, Essex County Council, and Dr Neil Hudson MP in writing to the Home Secretary to request an urgent meeting to discuss the continued use of hotels within the Epping Forest District to house newly arrived asylum seekers.

I have long campaigned for the preservation of our greenbelt. Whilst I know that some housebuilding is inevitable, it is extremely important that largescale building does not lead to London expanding indefinitely into the countryside.
