Good news from Essex County Council for all those living in Ongar - Carriageway and footway improvement works are due to restart on Tuesday 12 May following postponement due to Covid-19 on the A128 High Street/Coopers Hill in the town.
Essex Highways have issued a revised timetable (below) and will continue to monitor and follow government advice relating to the virus to ensure the safety of the public and our workforce is maintained.

Given the uncertain times that we still find ourselves in, some of our plans may be subject to change at short notice as we continue to fight this health emergency. We may need to adapt our programme if unexpected issues arise such as fluctuations in workforce availability or the supply of materials and equipment due to Covid-19, or if the works are affected by poor weather. Please be assured our intention is to complete the works as efficiently and safely as possible, minimising local inconvenience where possible.
Further updates or changes relating to these works will be posted on Essex Highways' webpage (‘A128 High Street/Coopers Hill, Ongar - carriageway & footway improvements’ from: www.essex.gov.uk/highwayschemes ) and twitter feed @essexhighways. This will include information on traffic restrictions as the scheme progresses.
Vehicle access to properties:
Please be reminded that during overnight road closures, properties will be accessible from either side of a closed section of Ongar High Street. Diversions will be advertised which accommodate all vehicle types, however other local alternatives may be available. The High Street will not be accessible to through traffic during road closures.
Vehicle access to residential and business properties within a closed section of road will be maintained during the majority of the scheme, however there will be periods overnight when access will be restricted due to work taking place at property frontages, and during resurfacing operations when no access will be permitted. These restrictions are necessary to protect the public and the workforce.
Due to the nature of this work and construction vehicles on site there will be periods of temporary noise and local inconvenience however where possible we aim to carry out the noisiest operations during the early part of the night, planning less noisy activities after 11pm and during the remainder of the shift.
