I recently visited the Coffee Post and High Ongar Post Office to talk to local postmistress, Beverley Howlett, about the business and local issues.
It seems on of the main problems facing the residents of High Ongar is slow broadband speeds and poor mobile phone signal in the village, both of which are an ongoing source of local frustration, in the way they affect not only online business transactions and daily work, but also the lives of residents who work from home or need to go online to do homework and household admin.
I promised I would survey the views of local people, so have written to as many residents as possible in High Ongar asking for feedback on broadband and mobile phone signals. I will gather these together and approach Essex County Council, Gigaclear, Openreach and the mobile phone companies with the evidence of issues.
If you live in High Ongar and would like to add your thoughts to the matter, please do email me at [email protected] or contact me via my website at www.alexburghart.org.uk. If your broadband speed is too slow for either of these methods, you can write to me at the House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA.
