The Havering and Brentwood Bereavement Service, based in Brentwood, offers an outstanding service to the community, offering support and counselling to children and adults who have been recently bereaved or who ahve undergone traumatic times.
The Charity was formed 29 years ago and since that time has undertaken Bereavement and Dementia Care for those aged 18 years to 85 years and children aged 4yrs to 18yrs The small staff mainly consists of Volunteer Counsellors supported by a another small team of paid staff. It offers counselling for children who have suffered a range of problems from multiple bereavements, suicides, anxiety, phobias, sleeping and behavioural problems. I visited HBBS last year and was immensely impressed by the work done by its counsellors.
It was a pleasure, therefore, to accompany staff and volunteers from HBBS on their recent visit to the Palace of Westminster and to visit the Speaker, John Bercow, who was equally impressed by the service.
