I’ve written before about the ongoing changes to Post office services in Shenfield – where the Shenfield Broadway Post office had to closed at the same time as the Morrisons shut down – and in Ingatestone, where the Post Office is currently being run by a temporary postmaster.

More on both of those in a moment, but first news of a delightful visit to the popular and thriving Post Office in High Ongar. The Post Office is at the back of The Coffee Post coffee shop, and both parts of the business were busy and popular when I popped in to visit postmistress Bev Howlett, her husband Steven, and Post office Limited representatives Lynne Robinson and Andy Parker a couple of weeks ago.

We discussed how people are using the Post Office still in these days of email and alternative delivery options, and I promised to look into why the broadband speeds in High Ongar are still so poor.

Despite all the historic issues with the Post Office accounting system, it seems being a sub-postmaster or postmistress is a popular job these days so I am hopeful for the futures of Shenfield and Ingatestone Post Offices.  The temporary postmaster operating Ingatestone Post Office is keen to find suitable new premises in the village when the current building is sold by its current owner. Likewise, new premises are still needed for the Post Office in Shenfield, so if you are a business or premises owner in either location, the Post Office would be pleased to hear from you.
