Updates from Local Rail Companies on Strike Action Impact

Monday, 25 July, 2022
West Horndon Station KB

Our local rail companies, Greater Anglia and C2C, which run services from Ingatestone, Shenfield and West Horndon, have been in touch with updates on services which will be affected by national strike action in the next couple of weeks.

Greater Anglia has provided the following information:

 Wednesday 27 July

This will be a national strike with impact across the rail network. Full details of the timetables on Greater Anglia should be available over the next couple of days, but in headline terms the position will be as follows. On most routes there will be no services at all and on those routes where services do operate they will be running between 07.30 and 18.30. The only routes on which services will operate will be :

Norwich to London Liverpool Street (intercity service) – 1 train per hour

Colchester to London Liverpool Street (stopping service) – 1 train per hour

Southend Victoria to London Liverpool Street – 2 trains per hour

Cambridge to London Liverpool Street – 1 train per hour

Stansted Airport to London – 2 trains per hour

Our advice will again be to avoid travelling with Greater Anglia - and if you really do need to travel, check your train times as the last trains will be much earlier than usual.

Saturday 30 July

There will be strikes on a number of train operators including Greater Anglia, Arriva Rail London, Great Western, Hull Trains, LNER, South Eastern, TransPennine Express and West Midland Trains.

On Greater Anglia, we currently expect the impact on services to be the same as tomorrow (23 July) with just hourly services able to operate on the Norwich to London, Colchester to London, Southend Victoria to London and Stansted Airport to London, mostly for shorter periods of the day than normal. We will confirm more details as they are finalised.

We are very sorry for the disruption strikes are causing for customers and communities across our network. We will continue to update you with information on any further developments.

And C2C have been in touch too with updates on services on Wednesday 27th July:

As industrial action by the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) on the UK rail network continues, we are advising customers to only travel on Wednesday 27 July if their journey is essential.

Significant disruption is expected on all lines with services starting later and finishing much earlier than usual. As with previous industrial action, trains will only run between 07:30 and 18:30 so we urge customers to plan ahead and check the times of their last trains.

We are advising passengers to only travel if it is essential, work from home if they can and to plan ahead if they do intend to travel, which will allow our severely reduced service to be utilised by those making essential journeys.

Customers are reminded that trains will only run between 07:30 and 18:30, with the first and last trains as below, though c2c warns that these trains are likely to be very busy.

First trains:

  • 07:30 Shoeburyness to Fenchurch Street
  • 07:32 Basildon to Fenchurch Street
  • 07:36 Grays to Fenchurch Street
  • 07:44 Pitsea to Fenchurch Street via Rainham

Last trains:

  • 17:00 Fenchurch Street to Pitsea via Rainham
  • 17:05 Fenchurch St to Shoeburyness via Laindon
  • 17:28 Fenchurch Street to Shoeburyness via Laindon
  • 17:37 Fenchurch Street to Grays via Rainham

No trains will serve Chafford Hundred or Ockendon stations as our reduced service can only operate on the routes that Network Rail has made available.

The full timetable is available here: www.c2c-online.co.uk/our-network/service-alterations/

The operator is also warning customers that disruption is likely to continue into Thursday morning as employees return to duties.
