Figures released today by the independent Office of National Statistics (ONS) show that more people are in work than ever before. Under the Conservatives, 3 million people are back in work since 2010, and the level of people out of work is at the lowest level in over 40 years.
In Brentwood and Ongar the total number of unemployed claimants this month was 505 which represents a rate of 1.1% of the economically active population aged 16-64, the 564th highest of the 650 UK constituencies. (650th = lowest claimant rate.) The equivalent UK claimant rate was 2.5% and the UK unemployment rate, which includes people not claiming benefits and is estimated from survey data, was 4.4% between April and June 2017.
Today’s figures also show:
-
There are nearly 400,000 fewer young people out of work since 2010
-
The highest female employment rate on record
-
75.1% of people aged 16-64 are in work, the highest employment rate on record
Damian Hinds MP, Minister of State for Employment, has commented on these figures saying:
“Under this Conservative Government, more people in the UK are in work than ever before. Since 2010, over 3 million more people are in work, with the security of a regular pay packet. Labour’s reckless and ill-thought-out policies would put all this at risk. Only the Conservatives are building a strong economy that works for everyone.”
