COVID-19 infections are reducing, but local doctors, nurses and clinicians are warning it is still alive and kicking, with the most vulnerable people remain at risk.

Consequently, NHS Mid and South Essex have been in touch to confirm a spring vaccination will be offered to those eligible from 17 April 2023.

The dose will be offered to adults aged 75 and over, older patients in residential care homes and anyone aged five and over with a weakened immune system.

Dr Anna Davey, GP leader at Mid and South Essex Integrated Care Board says vaccination remains the best protection against contracting COVID-19.

“The spring COVID-19 vaccination programme is aimed at those who are at highest risk of severe illness and need to keep their immunity topped up,” she adds. “It will bridge the gap before the planned autumn programme, ensuring the most vulnerable are well protected throughout the summer.

“COVID-19 is still circulating, and we have recently seen increases in older people being hospitalised, so it’s vital no one should be complacent. I encourage everyone who is eligible to take advantage of it once the spring COVID-19 vaccination programme starts.”

Those eligible for the spring booster vaccinations will be contacted (around six months after their previous dose) and are able to book an appointment via their GP where available on the National Booking Service.

Otherwise healthy 5-49 year olds who have not come forward for their primary course Covid-19 vaccination will no longer be able to access vaccinations from 30 June 2023.

Residents wanting a primary course are encouraged to book in via the National Booking Service in good time to access it before the offer ends.

Mandelson, Media and Meetings

Wednesday, 22 April, 2026
My Friday constituency visits were delayed last week as I spent the breakfast hours doing the media round, dealing with the breaking news that sacked US ambassador, Peter Mandelson, had failed security vetting but had still been appointed to the role, which allowed him access to top secret Governmen
