Two of our local train companies, C2C and Greater Anglia have been in touch with timetable updates as the cold weather and snow starts to bite.
Greater Anglia:
"I am sure you are aware that extreme weather conditions, including heavy snowfall, are forecast in the Anglia region from this evening (Monday) through until at least the end of Wednesday.
Network Rail are working with us to minimise the impact of the wintry weather on our customers. Contingency plans have been drawn up for the next two days (with today’s services finishing early, at around 22:00 this evening). However, in trying to run the best possible service on the busiest routes, Network Rail’s plans would, unfortunately, result in it not being possible to run any services on some more rural routes, if the conditions are as bad as predicted.
We are therefore currently proposing the following service alterations on Tuesday and Wednesday:
Running with a less frequent/slower service: Norwich to London, Norwich to Cambridge, Ipswich to Cambridge, Ipswich to Peterborough, Ipswich and Colchester to London, Southend to London, Cambridge to London, Stansted Airport to London, will run a reduced service from 06.00 to 22.00 on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Shuttle service only: Braintree to Witham; Harwich to Manningtree; Thorpe-le-Soken to Walton-on-the-Naze and Clacton; Southminster to Wickford; Marks Tey to Sudbury.
No service: Norwich to Sheringham, Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft; Ipswich to Felixstowe and Lowestoft; Colchester to Colchester Town; Stratford to Tottenham Hale.
We are asking all customers to keep checking our website and Twitter feeds as we will be posting up to date information throughout the next few days.
Please be assured that the decision to implement these alterations has not been taken lightly. We are being advised that this will be the worst snowfall the region has seen in 25-30 years with a total accumulation of around 30cm.
We will do our very best to keep our customers on the move and all back office managers have been asked to cancel meetings and assist with snow clearance at their local stations. We will also seek to re-introduce and restore services as quickly as possible."
C2C:
